Build it
- Drag the Ribbonfly Marquee widget onto a container.
- Delete the three example lines and add an item. Set its Type to Card.
- Choose the person's photo, fill in a title (their name) and a text (the quote), and describe the photo in the alt-text field.
- Add one card per review. Cards can also carry a link, for example to the full review.
- Set the speed and spacing under Motion.
Cards are meant to be read
A card wraps its text inside a width of about eighteen times the font size, so a long quote becomes a few lines instead of one very long one. Short quotes read best: a strip of cards moves, and a visitor gets a few seconds with each.
Why it is not called a carousel
A carousel normally means slides that change on a timer, with arrows or dots for moving between them. This is a continuous strip. The advantage is that nothing jumps, nothing waits on a timer, and the speed is a distance per second. The cost is that a visitor cannot go straight to review number four; they can pause the strip, and with the strip paused for reduced motion it can be scrolled by hand.
For people who asked for less motion
If a visitor's device is set to reduce motion, the strip starts standing still, the button says Play, and the whole row can be scrolled sideways by hand, so every review can be reached without any animation. Pressing Play starts the motion for that visitor.
Photos
Use photos with the same shape, such as squares, and similar sizes. The card shows the image at the width of the card, so one very tall photo makes one very tall card.
The same idea, built in the block editor, is covered in the testimonial marquee guide.
