What pauses the strip
- A mouse over it. The strip stops while the pointer is over it and moves on when the pointer leaves.
- Keyboard focus inside it. If an item is a link and a keyboard user tabs to it, the strip stops, so the link does not slide away from under the focus ring.
- The Pause button. A deliberate stop that stays until the visitor presses Play.
A touch screen has no hover. A touch is not treated as hovering, so a finger resting on the strip does not leave it paused after it lifts. On a phone the button is the control.
Turning the hover pause off
In the block sidebar and in Elementor's Pausing section there is a switch called Pause on hover and keyboard focus, on by default. Turn it off for a strip that should keep moving whatever the pointer does, such as a thin banner above the header. The Pause button still works either way.
Where the button goes
By default it sits beside the strip, in the room the strip leaves for it. With On hover and focus chosen it floats over the end of the strip, out of sight until the strip is hovered or something in it has focus; on devices that cannot hover it is always shown.
Try it
Hover the strip below, then tab to the button and press Space.
Try a marquee
Change the settings and watch the same engine the plugin uses. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Why pausing matters more than it first seems is covered in the accessibility guide.
